update of operating system Posted: 12/4/2006 8:08:07 PM
I have a Dell Notebook that I bought in 1999 which has basic Windows 98 installed.
To bring it up to date and allow todays software/hardware to be compatable I would like to load Windows Xp. I realize that the Notebook can be rather slow but I would like to be able to make it Wi/Fi capable by adding a new card.
1) can I simply load the Xp that came with another desktop that i have onto the notebook with no problems??
2) Or do I have to load win 98se first as well as other versions of windows ops systems??
I appreciate any help that I can get. Thanks in advance.

Well, that's kind of rigth at the bare minimum configuration for XP, so it's going to run more like a carnival pony than a thoroughbred horse, but it should run nonetheless. I presume you have a CD-ROM? You'll need that for the installation. | 12/5/2006 12:52:42 PM
Thanks for the quick response.

Windows XP can be loaded without loading any other versions first. You just have to make sure that your laptop meets the minimum requirements for running XP. What are the specs of your laptop (memory, processor, etc)? |
